Day to Night

I love a good pair of sneakers (I think I’m getting old,) as much as the next person, but let’s face it: not all tennis shoes were created equal.  A few years ago, the Mr came home with a brand new pair of the world’s ugliest shoes.  I couldn’t stop laughing when I saw them, but it wasn’t very long before he was busting a gut himself.  I still refer to his free-gift-with-purchase-t-shirt as New Balance’s way of apologizing for making the most comfortable pair of tennis shoes look so ugly.  They were a great pair of shoes though, and New Balance has since made them less…..ugly.  Not all tennis shoes were made equal and the scales of balance make it hard to find a good pair of athletic shoes that are comfortable and stylish.

I’ve ordered an embarrassingly large amount of tennis shoes in the hunt for the perfect pair that were stylish and uber-comfortable.  I’ve been sticking to my Vans Checkerboard slip-ons and Adidas Superstars while the hunt continues.  I got a pair in the mail a few weeks ago that I’ve been pretty happy with:

The Nike Roshe Run.  Seriously, so comfortable – lightweight, airy and the perfect soft/firm for a tennis shoe.  And yes, I’m still wearing leggings (well, J.Crew calls them Pixie Pants, but I’m still trying to hide my expansive behind regardless of the label.)

I have the best luck with on-trend cardigans from Nordstrom Rack (this one is from last winter.) It was inexpensive and I will update my wardrobe in the updated cut/style (this year was more of a drop-shoulder) for under $50.  Based on cost-per-wear, it’s a decent deal.

If Jenna Lyons can label leopard-print a neutral, then I declare the classic Burberry Plaid to be it’s slightly-more-conservative neutral counterpart. I have this Heritage Check Crinkled Cashmere Scarf, but this Check Wool Silk scarf is less than half-the-price, but will give you the same authentic feel.

I don’t often have time (but mostly – I’m just too lazy) to change outfits on a busy day, but with the change of a jacket and the shoes, I feel confident wearing this anywhere.  Except maybe church.  If I was wearing a to-the-knee dress or tunic with it, but that would require the kind of change that deserves the privacy of a changing room.

The great debate: Leggings as pants.
