I recently had not just one, but two occasions to spend some quality time with my oldest niece, a soon-to-be college student. Maybe it’s her youth combined with her attempt at maturity (she’s a great kid) but her stage in life has me both reminiscing about those
glory college days and planning a super-special care package full of college gift essentials that only an aunt as super-awesome as myself can provide. (hahahaha) Take a peek at the survival kit I plan to send:
In all seriousness, I think my little college survival kit is going to be both used and loved. I mean, I wish I had received this package when I was 18, wouldn’t you? It’s got cashmere (yes, she’s going to BYU – not my alma mater, but my parents and my siblings and my aunts and my uncles and my cousins and……), some glam essentials that will pass muster on the I-just-sleep-walked-my-way-in-to-class, a few hygiene essentials no girl (or anyone for that matter) should ever be without and of course, Hot Tamales. Doubles as a quick breath mint and breakfast (that’s right, remember eating candy as a meal during finals?)
Hot Tamales: This super-sized box from Urban Outfitters is funny and should last for one semester, at least.
Kleenex Expressions Oval Chevron Designs: Because no one deserves scratchy, thin tissues, ever.
Burt’s Bees Lip Ointment: Chapstick, an everyday essential especially in the dry mountain air.
Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream What college student has time for a real manicure? Everyone has 30 seconds to fake it!
Gingher Gold scissors: The forgotten necessity – for crafts, sewing, repairs, and sometimes just to cut that darn plastic off the tub of ice cream!
Floss: Because there is never a reason to not floss those pearly whites. Never.
Bobbi Brown Lip Gloss in Pink Gold: Pink and gold (duh!) Diamonds might be a girls’ best friend, but this lip gloss comes in at a very close second!
Starlet Hair Tie Set: Let’s face it, ponytails are as common as sleeping past your alarm and bad hair days.
Burberry Cashmere Scarf in classic check (or this cute knock-off at DSW): Cashmere. Cozy and comfy and almost as good as a real-live hug from your mom 🙂
What are a few of the essentials you couldn’t live without (and please don’t say Ramen!!)
This discussion brought to you by Kleenex + Walmart. All opinions (and my niece) are my own. As always.
